Otherscape gives viewers the sentiment of having one leg planted in the vaporwave landscape and the other in the middle of a dream world. Vaporwave is a microgenre characterized by nostalgia for the jazz, RnB, and electronic music era of the 1980’s and 1990’s. The genre visually incorporates early Internet imagery from the 1990s and color palettes from the concurrent web design.

 

Miller’s work is a mixed application of digital and traditional paint and collage techniques on paper, aluminum, and canvas. Each piece celebrates the interplay of color in ambient light. Departing from her earlier work, this body of work was largely inspired by archetypal symbolism, mythology, and lo-fi hip-hop channels on YouTube (STEEZYAF, RyanCelsius, and Inner Ocean Records, to name a few). Channels like these often feature a lightly animated graphic depicting a scenic view. The combination of the visual element with the soundtrack of the playlist offers the sense of being transported to a hypnotic, faraway place.
