International Visitor Leadership Program via U.S. Department of State
Jun. 2021: Twelve visitors from the Near East and North Africa are invited to the United States under the auspices of the Department of State’s International Visitor Leadership Program. Their program is arranged by CRDF Global. Professional objectives for the project included: 1.) learning how various governmental and NGO entities, advocacy associations, media outlets, and grassroots organizations influence policy and raise awareness about disability issues, and 2.) creating professional networking opportunities to facilitate long-term dialogue. Zoom Group Inc. participated as a panelist in a program discussion, presenting methods used to communicate with stakeholders and giving two StudioWorks artists space to speak on their experience as participants of the Zoom Group Inc. day program, StudioWorks.
Arima x Louisville
Jan. 2021 - Apr 2021: World Affairs Council (WAC) connected For Common Good (Arima, Trinidad) and Zoom Group Inc. (Louisville, KY) for a project to raise awareness of supports for adults with disabilities in Arima, Trinidad. StudioWorks gave two information sessions to the arts-centered cohort of participants from Arima. The first consisted of an overview of services provided by Zoom Group; the second was an observation session during a scheduled VirtualWorks Self-Advocacy workshop (see VirtualWorks Program section). Artists from StudioWorks presented chosen artworks to Arima participants and engaged in positive critique. The cohort then developed their own projects to execute in Trinidad.
VirtualWorks Program
In response to the Covid-19 Pandemic, Zoom Group Inc. developed VirtualWorks to engage team members (participants receiving services) who choose to remain healthy at home. Staff facilitators develop hour-long workshops to supplement skill-building, healthy lifestyle and community-related goals, as defined by team member plans of care. Below are the curricula I created as part of VirtualWorks.
Self-Advocacy
Oct. 2020 - Mar. 2021: Weekly series promotes growth in self-advocacy skills through educational slideshows, discussions, multi-modal expression, and peer-leadership opportunities. Topics of interest span a range of categories such as interpersonal skills, human rights, introspection, racial justice, etc. Specific examples of past discussions include boundaries, consent, healthy friendships, Krip-hop, poetry analysis, and the relationship between art & fear.
Watercolor Wednesdays
Sept. 2020: Four week series in which participants explored watercolor, an inexpensive, accessible medium with easy setup and cleanup. The series began with abstract birds, then in subsequent weeks, team members elected to practice seahorses, dogs, and bears.
